Thanksgiving

Friday, November 25th, 2005

For Thanksgiving weekend, my family and I came down to South Carolina to spend time with our family.

On our journey down here, we stopped in Virginia to grab some dinner and I got ID’d for the first time since I turned 21. However, since we travelled through the night, the journey was for the most part uneventful. We did watch ‘Dil Chahata Hai’ on Ritu’s request for the first few hours. Then Ritu and Rashi went to sleep and I decided to catch up on some lecture notes from one of my classes. But it was late and I just didn’t feel like studying. So away went the laptop and the final lap of the journey went staring down at I-95 for a few hours.

After we got here, I went to sleep after about an hour of staying up and woke up around 2pm the following morning. The rest of the day was spent playing pool and then finally, the Thanksgiving Dinner.

Before Dinner, we lighted some fireworks - they are legal down here compared to MD where it is illegal. After Dinner were a few more games of pool and when I realized that I was playing alone, I decided it was time to call it quits.

Happy Rakhi to Ritu & Rashi …

Rakhi - The Thread of Love

The chaste bond of love between a brother and a sister is one of the deepest and noblest of human emotions. ‘Raksha Bandhan’ or ‘Rakhi’ is a special occasion to celebrate this emotional bonding by tying a holy thread around the wrist. This thread, which pulsates with sisterly love and sublime sentiments, is rightly called the ‘Rakhi’. It means ‘a bond of protection’, and Raksha Bandhan signifies that the strong must protect the weak from all that’s evil.

Garba @ UMD

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2003

Last Saturday, there was a garba at UMD. It was well organized and surprisingly, it was on schedule! There was definitely a huge Indian crowd - a number I have never seen together. Ritu was telling me that they sold 963 tickets. That’s a whole lot of freaking indians. It was fun though. I didn’t realize that it took so much coordination to get as little as 10 people to hit their sticks at the same time. I’ll definitely look forward to more events organized by the HSC.

Rakhi

Wednesday, August 13th, 2003

Rakhi is not a fair game cuz I am broke now. I hope my Indian fellas know what Rakhi is but for my non-Indian readers, Rakhi is an Indian festival where girls tie Rakhis on their brothers and the brother in return has to give something to his sister. I think a lot of sisters would prefer to receive money because they know that their brother is not gonna know which store to buy them a gift from. Rakhis are fancy strings with fancy decorations on them and the girl is supposed to make it herself with love & care for her brother. The brother promises to protect his sister from the harsh world in return and gives her a gift. All I’m saying is that … actually I take back what I said , I love my sisters and they deserve all I have.

Website update

Monday, March 10th, 2003

I’m really excited (sarcastically speaking) for all my midterms. Let’s see … I have one on Thursday, one on Friday and whoops one on Monday! Isn’t that lovely? I’m dying here … somebody please call 911. All jokes apart, the best part is that I’ll be done with all the classes in one single blow, a hard blow though! Mukta was looking good at the fashion show yesterday as I mentioned so I decided to steal a few pictures off of Gokul’s website and put it on mine. Gokul I hope I won’t see a copyright infringement lawsuit coming my way. Anyways, Ritu had her big EXAM today … I really hope she makes it to the next level because she worked really hard for it … I have my fingers crossed for you Ritu! I hope Ami approves this new background cuz apparently, she thought that black was too Intimidating for her. Well everybody let me know what you think about the background.
