FiOS Speed vs. Comcast Speed

I switched to Verizon FiOS in late January ‘06. Before Verizon FiOS, I had internet service with Comcast cable. I thought it would be interesting to compare speed tests from the same provider (speakeasy.net) for Comcast and FiOS.

Here is the last speed test I conducted before cutting the cable:
Download: 2345 kbps, Upload: 351 kbps

The advertised speed for my Comcast connection was as follows:
Download: 4000 kbps, Upload: 384 kbps

Here is a speed test I conducted today with FiOS over a wireless connection:
Download: 13028 kbps, Upload: 1794 kbps

The advertised speed for my new connection is as follows:
Download: 15000 kbps, Upload: 2000 kbps

As you can see, this is a tremendous improvement both in terms of download and upload. And to top it all, it is costing me the same!

Comcast: $42.95 + Stupid taxes/charges
FiOS: $44.95 + NO TAXES/CHARGES

To top the cake, FiOS comes with MSN Premium service (not much useful) and a free 802.11g wireless router. I don’t see why anyone wouldn’t want to switch.

I actually get around 9 Mbps download and 350 Kbps upload with Comcast…looks like Comcast is trying to beef up its speed to compete with FiOS.

Gaah, I’m jealous. Verizon is taking it’s time rolling out FIOS. Certainly not available yet here in Seattle I don’t think.

I am a supervisor with Verizon in the Harrisburg, Pa area. we offer up to 30M here!!! it is not available everywhere due to Verion taking its time to do the FiOS build right the first time. You cant rush a good thing! Good luck to all…

Verizon fios is the best technology to hit these parts (Central NY)in a long while. If Verizon handles video service like its handling its current fios package then Time Warner is getting cut off.
