Exams are done

Wednesday, December 15th, 2004

I am writing this from outside my Final Examination room for BMGT360. I have been waiting for Sue to finish for over 20 minutes now … I wonder what she’s writing … I hope she isn’t struggling too much in there.

Anyways, this post isn’t about that. This post is about the exhiliration and relief of being done with the semester. Everything is in the hands of GOD (well, my TA’s to be precise). I have 19 days of freedom before the Winter session starts on the 4th of January.

Accounting II … should be fun. Only bad thing is walking in this freezing cold weather to my class. I might just end up parking in the garage and paying like 5 dollars a day for parking. Ouch … sounds expensive … but thats for later.

Now, it’s time for y’all to pray … cuz the little devil (in my brain) has nothing to do. So YOU better pray I don’t come over and start disturbing you while you’re trying to study for your finals. Mwhahahahahaha

Exam Tomorrow & stupid mistakes

Sunday, December 12th, 2004

I have my Computer Science exam tomorrow and this is a class I am repeating. For some reason, I did really well on the first half of the class (the half that I already knew). But on the second half are topics that are unfamiliar to me. These include Ineritance, STL, Hashing, Heaps, Exceptions Graphs etc. I hope I can get this stuff down for tomorrow’s exam at 4pm.

I did finish my project which was due Friday. There was a whole lot of stupid mistakes that I made on the project and frankly speaking, there were some times during that project when I doubted my future in the major of Computer Science. But, all is done and submitted. One such stupid mistake had to do with using the wrong indexes to call arrays. I explained the situation to Ami (a non-technical major) and she seemeed to have no problem comprehending the source of my problem and that made me wonder … “is it just me?

Well, as far as the last push goes, I only have 2 exams to go … one tomorrow at 4pm and one Wednesday at 8am. Wish me luck!

Project time again

Tuesday, December 7th, 2004

Its time again for that last push of the semester. I thought all my last pushes were over but I guess this class is really adamant about this stuff. So, here goes nothing … bid me luck so that I can get this done in time.

You know something, I’ve been devastated by these projects in 214 and my advisor tells me that I have seen nothing like the course load that is about to come in these computer science classes. I just shudder to think.

TV resolution vs. Computer resolution

Monday, December 6th, 2004

As far as comparing computer resolution to TV resolution, keep in mind that:

Computer monitors usually refresh 75 times a second

TV’s are either interlaced (30 times a second) or progressive (60 times a second)

Regular TV is 480i (640 x 480 interlaced)

EDTV is 480p (640 x 480 progressive)

**Notice that EDTV is NOT-widescreen BUT they sell in widescreen format to compete with HD formats

EDTV widescreen is also 480p (853 x 480 progressive - 60 frames per second)

HDTV is 1080i (1920 x 1080 interlaced)
OR 720p (1280 x 720 progressive)

Old TV’s had a ratio of Width:Height = 4:3
This is also known as FULLSCREEN format

New TV’s have a ratio of Width:Height = 16:9
This is known as WIDESCREEN format

The way you calculate screen resolution is (16/9) * 480 = 853.33 (EDTV widescreen) and so on.

So in short, no, you’re not exactly comparing apples to apples but they’re fairly close enough to compare IF you really wanted to.
