Squarespace is some Bull$hit

In light of the recent mishap with ALLBLOGS, I emailed Squarespace with the following message-

Subject: Squarespace Inquiry – I’d like to report a problem
————————————————————-

The ATOM, RSS and RDF feeds for ALL Squarespace websites show an XML
error. For further reference please see:

http://pranav.squarespace.com/journal/atom.xml

I access about 7 SquareSpace users’ websites and used their feeds to
read their blogs. All of them have malfunctioned starting yesterday.

And this is the response I got from them-

If you view source on that page–you will notice that Squarespace is
restricting XML syndication due to the account level of the account
you’re referencing. XML syndication is limited to users with basic or
higher accounts.

We will revisit if we should make this a free feature or not–though it
was always listed as a basic level feature, I believe.

Thanks for the heads up, though. We’ll adjust the error message to look
ok in XML.

Basically, Anthony is trying to point out that the FEEDS were a PAID feature. That is some BS because most of your accounts had expired and were downgraded to FREE accounts and you still had access to the FEEDS.

Matter of fact, he changed the error message from a general XML message to the following-

«?xml version=”1.0″ encoding=”UTF-8″ ?»
- «!– Generated by Squarespace Site Server v2.0 (http://www.squarespace.com/) on Fri, 13 Aug 2004 16:43:49 BST

«error-message»This premium feature is restricted by your current account level. Please upgrade if you wish to access it.«/error-message»

  2. Samit says:

That sucks big time…what are some other good blogging options other than squarespace, I don’t mind switching.

  3. Vish says:

Pure BS, like ankan said he must have just changed that. Im with samit on the other blogging sites becasue it isnt a big deal to switch.

Well, you guys are the customer and you have the right to choose. Exercise it!

Blogger has lived, and been loved. Compare their features, and if you like it then why not switch?

    I’m kind of confused.

The feature was always listed as paid, an upgrade started enforcing that, and instead of presenting a case for making the feeds non-premium, you’re going to post on the web that it’s “bullshit”.

What would have helped: expressing this to me. This was the first notion I heard that someone was unhappy with that decision.

To be honest, I’m not sure if it should be a premium feature or not–but I need arguments from both sides to decide. Revisiting this (I hadn’t known it was a big deal), I think we’ll probably open it up again, as the feed serving isn’t a huge strain on the system at this point.

Providing honest and reasonable feedback _to us_ directly helps improve the product. Just asking or explaining your situation would have solved your problem.

    Thanks again.

I have two Squarespace sites, like Anthony mentioned he gives great support if you would have just opened a trouble ticket.

Look at the sites if you do not believe me, my feeds are working fine, there was a problem with the XML url’s that was worked out.

But everything seems to be working great now.

I love Squarespace as a platform ASP.
