Theoretically, we concentrate on the merits of his work as a civil servant. But as somebody leading the country, or setting an example for the rest, or supposed to be representing a lot of the population, he does not reflect the value of the society he represents anymore. Not to judge what he does is right or wrong, but he simply isn't in a position to represent the values of the people that elected him. I'd say that makes a rather good case for a resignation.
