The relaxed mood is kicking in

Thursday, March 18th, 2004

Oh it feels soo good to sleep a little later than usual … I love people who cancel class right before break. God blesss them. But now I’m up and I guess it’s time to take care of some other stuff. Anybody have any interesting plans for the break?

By the way, you guys should fill out your bracket … ask Vishal for details.

Spring Break without the weather?

Wednesday, March 17th, 2004

The weather is still cold and will stay cold over the spring break … call that fun for people not going to the beach? Besides I think we all need a week to recuperate from what these past 2-3 weeks have done to us.

Sears attendance policy

Tuesday, March 16th, 2004

The Sears attendance policy is the worst piece of ‘legislature’ ever put into hard practice. Basically, one has 12 points to foul and every time one is later than 6 minutes for their shift, they get assessed 2 points. Also, if you miss a day, you get assessed 4 points. So in essence, if you are late once in 2 months, then you would end up getting fired. One of my very dedicated co-workers was let go yesterday. He was the best worker they had there … heck he even vacuumed the carpet voluntarily! This way the turnover that sears will have will be tremendous. I believe that every 3-6 months, there will be a new staff. Especially, if most of the staff is school going.

When people work in retail, they are usually looking for EXTRA money and have so many other things going on that the last thing on their mind is to make sure that they are not more than 6 minutes late otherwise they might get fired. This co-worker of mine actually was on final notice because he had 12 points and any more points would lead to termination. Poor chap had a flat tire the next day and he frantically tried calling in and letting them know of his situation. Next thing you know, they assess him 1 point for that and let him go. All in all, this is the worst policy I have ever seen in effect.
