Job Hunting

Wednesday, July 30th, 2003

Job hunting is tough but fun. I am just driving around, going to different places and asking them for jobs. The only annoying part is that every freaking place I go to, they ask me to fill out an application and every application is a damn long application asking me the same damn information that the people next door asked me. Why don’t you just take my resume you idiots? I swear that the next time I say,

“Hi, I was just wondering if you guys were hiring”

and the response I get even closely resembles:

“Ummm, I’m not sure but here, let me give you an application and why don’t you go ahead fill it out and I’ll forward it to HR”,

I’m going to kill myself. On the other hand, it is a lot of fun too. Back when I was going door to door for about 2 weeks, every door or business I went into, the people looked at me with skepticism and were very rude to me. Its almost as if it has become instinct for them to lookout for young people dressed neatly in formals. They must think,

“hmmm, a college student and in FORMALS? He is definitely trying to sell something.”

Even now, when I walk in, the receptionists look at me as if I’m about to annoy the hell out of them and then I politely ask, “Are you guys hiring?” I can almost see that sigh of relief on their face. Its a good feeling. Anyways, let’s see where I get hired. Wish me luck.

Where to go?

Monday, July 21st, 2003

I think I’ve had enough relaxation past week and now it is time to get back in the game. I have already faxed in my bartending final exam and am waiting for my certification to be approved. I’m kind of in a dilemma though. On one hand, I could take up bartending for the rest of the summer and continue through with the job during school. It would be a lot of fun, good money AND I’ll have time for myself and school. ON the other hand, I could take up a sales position with a company and work on my career. This would be beneficial to me by helping me gain valuable experience in the sales field.

However, I don’t intend to work for somebody for the entirety of my youth. Before I hit 30, I want to be an entrepreneur. So whatever experience I gain now would help me be an entrepreneur. So the question of building a good solid sales background sounds not too tempting because the only reason I would get a solid background in sales is so that I could show it off on my resume. But I’m not shooting for a top-notch job in the future. I just want practical experience. I don’t know. As of now, I’m leaning more towards bartending. I figure that I’m in college and its the only time I can have some fun so why not?

Just like Vishal said, this movie is pure 2? hours of non-stop entertainment. The action scenes are amazing and the humor is just funny! You should definitely go check this one out.

Russell Thomas

There is this song Called ‘Spoil You’ by an artist called ‘Russell Thomas’. Click Here to go to mp3.com and listen to the song on their website. However, it is best to search Kazaa for Russell Thomas.

I find this song really soothing and it is the kind of song I can listen to over and over and over again. I was just curious, what kind of songs do other people think that they can listen to forever. If you guys would be kind enough to do so, just type in the song you can listen to over and over again, and its artist when you post a comment to this post.

Life at its best

Thursday, July 17th, 2003

There is nothing better than sleeping in till late in the morning and just sit around all day. It feels great to not have anything SCHEDULED for the day and everything is spontaneous. Like yesterday, I didn’t feel like sleeping so I got up at 5:30 and just played around with my exercise machine. Then took a little nap and rushed into my 9:00 class. Then I took my mom out for lunch, came home, watched TV and cleaned up my room a bit. Then went out for ‘household’ shopping with my parents and came back home to the nice couch and wonderful TV. And then it was time to hit the bed again. Ahhh … I love living like this. I don’t think I ever want a job again.

I quit

Tuesday, July 15th, 2003

Well, the new job didn’t seem to be working out too well for me. For once, I felt good about quitting this one. I would not recommend working for this company to anybody. First off, going door to door is bad enough already. Second, this guy makes us knock on doors in ‘NO-SOLICITING’ zones. I mean people pay extra money to be located in these zones. And then he has the nerve to say that since we are giving away something for free, it doesn’t count as soliciting! Also, he never paid me for the sales I made last week and the excuse he used was that if something goes wrong with the deal, I wouldn’t be there to fix it so he can’t pay me. I’m glad I’m not working for him anymore!

PS- Name: Scott Bearden, Company: Homeland Security Inc.

First Sale

Wednesday, July 9th, 2003

OK, I made my first sale on Monday. It just happened that me being the lady charmer and all, was able to talk this lady into security. That was a joke for those who don’t get it. It actually turned out that the lady had been thinking about getting a security system since her husband is always out coaching for the redskins ( I know! I was like, “What! What’s your name sir?” He turned out to be one of the small coaches that train certain players). Well, back to the lady, so when I was able to offer her over $1500 worth of equipment for free, she was hooked and I wrote her the paperwork and her husband came home from a jog and he said he was cool with the deal so looks like I got me some money this week!

By the way, if you’re wondering as to why I’m up so early/late then let me just say that I was and still am studying. After that, I leave it all up to you guys … believe what you wanna believe.
