Henry Ford

Wednesday, April 30th, 2003

First off … I apologize for the site being down … technical obstacles.

I’ve heard this from a lot of sources that Henry Ford actually shrunk the back-seat of his model-t car to prevent any kind of courtship in the car. He disliked the idea of couples mating in the model-t and to discourage any such activity, he shrunk the back-seat to about 38 inches (not sure). If anybody can find me evidence of this, I’ll be really grateful.

I heard about Baskin Robin’s free ice-cream. Did anybody go? I feel awkward going somewhere for free stuff but hey! its free ain’t it?

Shooting at Maryland

Sunday, April 27th, 2003

I’m sure most of you have heard about the recent shooting at Maryland (University of Maryland). It is totally ridiculous how these people can easily get guns. What use are licensing regulations for such arms? I mean what is the point of owning a gun unless you are in the military? And I think recreational hunting is the most ridiculous excuse for getting a gun. It should be illegal to shoot at birds and animals just because of humane reasons.

Ki Seong Kim - the man involved in the recent shooting at the University. (from washingtonpost.com)

Such people who have temperament disorders should not be allowed to possess any harmful arms.

Networking

Sunday, April 27th, 2003

What I’m debating is how to hook up my laptop to my desktop computer. One option is a wireless solution. However, this is expensive and can cost me upto $500. The other solution is a no-more-wires solution which would broadcast the network on the power lines in my house. Such kind of a network is called a power-line network which is very cheap and faster than a wireless solution. The problem, everytime I want to use the laptop, I would have to plug in an extra power cable in addition to the AC adapter. So one more wire. I can’t decide which one to go with.

Private Conversations

Saturday, April 26th, 2003

When person A expresses their innermost feelings to person B, person A is confiding in person B. What right does person B have over the information that person A just gave them. What if the information totally disagrees with person B’s philosophy? Does this person (B) have a right to take an action based on their own feelings? Doesn’t the confiding party (person A) have a right to privacy? What right does person B have to disseminate person A’s information to anybody else, no matter what the situation?

I think that when a person tells sombody how they feel on the inside, then the person who is listening to all of this has a duty to keep the conversation private. Under no circumstances should the information shared during the intimate talk be publicized without prior permission.

First B in Chemistry!

Friday, April 25th, 2003

I got an 84 on my Chem Exam! I was so scared of that exam and I BS’d a lot. It doesn’t seem fair though that the exams that I study for go so horribly bad that I get a C but the exams that I chill out for, I get a B. I just finished buying my laptop. It would qualify as a sucky laptop according to some but hey, it works for me. Check it out here.

We were having a lot of problems at work and we finally decided to call in tech support for Crystal Reports because we had spent about two weeks trying to figure out what the problem was. Guess what technical support says? They acknowledge that it is a problem with the software and hope to fix it in future releases. AAAGH! SCREW YOU, YOU *@$#!%!#$

For my gemstone program, we had to pick teams to resesarch with for 3 years. Get this, my team is all guys AND all business majors. I don’t know how I’m gonna survive the next 3 years.

I want a Laptop

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2003

I want to setup a wireless LAN (connecting two or more computers together) at home. The biggest problem is that I only have one computer. So I decided to buy a crappy, old, second-hand laptop from ebay to solve the problem. Now since I have no clue as to what I am doing with the LAN crap, I don’t know what I should be looking for in the laptop. I don’t want to spend $300 on some laptop and then find out that it cannot be connected to a wireless network. Here are some of the technical specs that I am looking for in the laptop (not related to the network) for anybody who is interested: 128mb RAM, 6.4gb HDD, 233-450MHz, 15″ screen, CD-drive and a touchpad for the mouse instead of the little stub on the keyboard. Now I’m not sure what the laptop needs to have to connect to a wireless network so I’m a little confused now. Anybody have any suggestions?
